This story was told to me by my mother Margaret. When Aunt Rosie was a young girl, she was always very timid and skiddish. The family was dirt poor and lived on the banks of Big Lake there in Mississippi County, Arkansas. They had an old well pump outside. It had already gotten dark and I dont remember if they were already outside or how it happened exactly but Aunt Rosie told Grandma she was thirsty and wanted a drink. There was only one problem. Aunt Rosie was terrified of the Dark. So Grandma went outside with her and while she was busy getting her a drink from the dipper at the pump, grandma snuck around the house and in the back door. Grandma hid underneath the kitchen table. The house was dark and when Aunt Rosie finished with her drink and grandma was no where to be found she headed back inside. Just as she rounded the corner, Grandma came loping out from underneath the kitchen table on all fours hollering to beat sixty! Mom said it scared Aunt Rosie so bad she wet herself. Grandma was just laughing up a storm. My grandmother was just full of mischief. She always enjoyed playing tricks on people and she thought this was hilarious. But Aunt Rosie sure didn't think so.
